Ashley Severson - LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker, who has been practicing in the mental health field for six years now. I recently opened my own private practice, Tahoe Mental Health, where I provide psychotherapy services utilizing evidence based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness based practices, narrative therapy, solution focused therapy, grief counseling, play therapy and art therapy. I work with individuals, starting with children age four years old and up, as well as with families.  In addition to my private practice, I also work as a medical social worker at Tahoe Forest Hospital in the home health and hospice department. Upon moving to North Tahoe in 2018, I worked at Tahoe SAFE Alliance as the Children’s Program therapist, where I provided individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults who have either experienced or witnessed child abuse, sexual assault and/or domestic violence. Prior to starting at Tahoe SAFE Alliance, I worked as a case manager on the SCBH Youth and Family Services Team, carrying a caseload of 27 high risk youth with moderate to severe mental illness. I began my career at Sonoma County as a behavioral health clinician on the Crisis Assessment Prevention And Education (CAPE) Team. As a clinician on this team, I conducted clinical assessments, including suicide and violence risk assessments and 5150 evaluations, crisis intervention, I provided individual counseling, helped connect individuals to services within the community, provided grief counseling and tragedy response, presented suicide prevention trainings, and conducted assessments and home visits following individuals’ discharge from a psychiatric hospitalization. Our team worked with high school students and staff, as well as the local junior college, and local community agencies. I have also worked on the Sonoma County Mobile Support Team (MST) which provides clinical support to law enforcement during a mental health crisis, the Sonoma County Crisis Stabilization Unit providing Crisis intervention, assessment, stabilization, and hospitalization, and on the Napa County Adult mental health treatment team providing clinical case management services. I have extensive work experience and knowledge in providing support and services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, suicide prevention, grief counseling, and tragedy response.
